CHISOM OKPALA

The sixth child out of eight (there's never a dull moment in her home!) Chisom is a girl full of so much energy and vigor that it manifests in her academic, extracurricular and social life. An ice cream and frozen yoghurt addict, she is one student whose success story began to manifest from a young age. She was consistently on the Honor's list in her high school, winning awards as the best student in an array of subjects. She is something of a national star, winning two consecutive years of the Maltina National Reading Competition, the Olatunji Odegbami National Information Technology Competition, the Ecobank's Essay Competition and the zonal level of the 2010 Mathematics Olympiads, the national level of which she couldn't attend due to her WASSCE exam holding at the same time. She was also among the top three students in Abia State at the Cowbell Mathematics Competition. She majored in Economics and minor in Computer Science at Harvard.

Chisom strongly believes in the transformational power of a multi-faceted education, which explains her deep involvement with other activities outside the classroom. In her high school, Dority International Secondary School, she was Editor-in-Chief of the Dority Press Club, Chief Judge of the Students' Judiciary, deputy speaker of the Students Representative Council in 11th grade and an avid debater, leading her team to victory at the PTDF Debate Contest in Abia State and winning the graduation day Prize for Public Speaking, Debate and Oratory. At Harvard, she was a Second Marshal, elected to the Undergraduate Council, Harvard's Student Government, a position through which she advocated improvements in student life. She gave a speech during Harvard’s 2015 commencement (watch here at 2:14:10- Harvard University Class Day | Commencement 2015).

Chisom loves to have fun! Apart from her stellar academic and extracurricular involvements, she is also a big fan of travelling- she's already visited quite a number of states in the U.S. and spent a summer interning with some other Harvard undergrads in China! She loves fashion and modelled with the Harvard Identities Fashion Show. She loves meeting people and has already met quite a number of influential people at Harvard (Mark Zuckerberg, Lady Gaga, John Legend etc).

She was accepted to both Harvard Business School and Stanford Graduate School of Business. They're both deferred MBA admissions since they require some work experience before starting an MBA. They allow up to three years in deferral so she’s currently working at one of the most prestigious consultancy firms, Bain New York before starting her MBA.
